Sometime around their fourth birthday children begin the study of mathematical concepts. Dr. Maria Montessori observed a human tendency to abstract, investigate, calculate, measure, imagine, and create. The math activities allow children to develop these tendencies through manipulative concrete materials that foster repetition and concentration and progress to abstractions.
The math materials help children learn and understand math concepts by working with concrete materials. These activities provide a solid foundation in Math and Geometry through exploration in shapes, patterns, designs and numbers. They also offer a structured scope for abstract reasoning.
Geometry and fractions are also available for sensorial exploration. These activities provide early exploration and joyful arithmetic without the drudgery of memorization. The children learn facts and skills by performing mathematic operations with ingeniously designed materials.
