The Montessori House is located in a 1908 farm house in North Portland between the University of Portland and historic downtown St. Johns. This unique in-home program is based on the philosophy of Maria Montessori and the Montessori Method. The children’s environment is in a separate space from the family’s living space, sharing only the kitchen.

The children’s prepared environment is designed to assist the children to thrive in their development. The classroom is filled with authentic Montessori materials and consists of activity areas for Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, and Artistic and Cultural Appreciation. There is also an outdoor extension perfect for outdoor activities and gardening.
About the School
the Montessori House of st. johns
The children are provided organic snacks. We get most of our produce from our local St. Johns Kruger's Farm Stand. The children learn what produce is in season and how to prepare a large variety of organic snacks. We also have our own organic garden and fruit trees!

The Montessori House is eco-friendly and committed to providing the healthiest environment for children. Non-toxic cleaning supplies are used (except when bleach is required). We strive for outstanding air and water quality. We recycle and have a compost bin for our garden. There is an emphasis on independently caring for ourselves and our environment.
